Hunting
One especially popular recreational activity throughout the Northeast is hunting. Dogs are used to track, capture, and retrieve all types of game, including duck, quail, grouse, rabbit, fox, and turkey. Many hunters not only want a hunting partner, but also want a pet throughout the off-season. They create a bond that is irreplaceable.

Maple Sugaring
Believe it or not, dogs can come in handy in the sugar woods too. According to the Vermont Department of Agriculture, the state brings in about 2 million gallons of maple syrup each season. Dogs can make the tapping and repair work run more efficiently in a time sensitive situation.

Sledding
When most people think about sled dog racing, their natural instinct references Alaska. However, the cold Northeast winter climate makes for great sled dog conditions too. Sled dogs are used for both recreational purposes and business purposes around the region. Many businesses have been able to drive in revenue through tourism in order to make a living off of their hobby.
